About
Judith Caldwell
ICONOGRAPHER
Yountville, California
I write icons because I am passionate about this sacred art form.
As an undergraduate student in the early 1970’s at St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, Art was my Minor.
Consistently interested in creativity, I have studied Figure Drawing, Italic Calligraphy, and Oil Pastels.
My love of art culminated in a Doctoral Thesis in the mid 1980’s entitled, A + C = B (Art + Curricula = Basics of Education.)
As a primary school teacher for 13 years, I incorporated drawing into my students’ daily academic curriculum.
Noting the powerful, positive effect that art had on the children in my class, I furthered my education at The New School for Social Research in New York City and received certification in Art Therapy.
I became a Professor in the Education Department at Central Connecticut State University, and demonstrated to both graduate and undergraduate students the importance of integrating art into academics. It wasn’t long before I was giving workshops on this topic throughout the Connecticut public school system through its Department of Education.
I married my husband, Jay, in 1992, and moved from the East Coast to Napa Valley, California. I began offering workshops on creativity to teachers in the Napa Public school system, and Art Therapy collage sessions at Retreat Centers and Health Spas.
In the year 2000, I had what some people would describe as “A Calling to the Ministry.”
This yearning pushed me to return to school, wherein I earned two Master’s Degrees in Spirituality.
For over 25 years, I have officiated hundreds of weddings, baby blessings, and funerals.
It was during that time that I learned of Iconography, and became immediately hooked.
I enrolled in one class after another, and took my classes seriously.
My deep love of art and devotion to my prayer life is the perfect combination, and a natural inspiration to continue writing icons for a long time.
Now the time has come for my icons to move from my home and studio office into the homes and offices of people to enjoy.
